37 weeks+

This was at 36 weeks :)
We are soooo close to meeting this little boy!

How far along: 37 weeks and some :)

Size of baby: Last week I was measuring a week and half ahead of schedule.  Eeek.  When I asked the doctor what that meant, he said, "you're not going to have a 5lb baby"  I'm just really hoping he will be less than 9 lbs..for my sake.

Total weight gain:  +31 lbs...phew

Movements: He has busy days and not so busy days but he's still the cutest thing squirming around in there.  I believe he is definitely running out of room and at times he presses on organs which makes mommy very uncomfortable.  I still love feeling and watching him move around.

What I miss:  being comfortable

Cravings: nothing new

Symptoms: I am pretty uncomfortable at this point and have consistent heartburn but still pretty sure my baby is not going to have any hair :)

Best moments of the Week:  Starting to feel like we are really ready for him to arrive.  My mom came to town and helped me clean and organize the whole house. Bless her. The nursery is so close to being done! I feel like he could come any day and we would feel good about it :)  It is still pretty surreal thinking about him joining us but we are so thankful and excited for this new, crazy season of life!

A letter

My dear son,

You are getting ready to arrive into this crazy world! It is so hard to believe that we will be meeting you face to face within the next month.  I think about that moment often, the moment when I will first see your little face and little body and little toes.  I think about what it will be like to first hear the sound of your voice crying.  It will be such a precious noise. I often think of what it will feel like when the nurse lays your little body on me and I get to hold you for the very first time. I'm pretty positive that I will want time to stand still during that moment.  I also think about what it will be like to see your dad hold you for the first time.  He is going to be so happy and beaming with pride, I am confident.  We just love you so much already.

There are so many things that we want for you, for your life. We pray for you all the time.  We pray for the Lord's protection over your life.  He is the one that created you and He has been sustaining your precious life.  He has been perfectly knitting you together over the last 9 months. You are a miracle. He loves you infinitely more than we are even capable of loving you.  We pray often that you will know His love and believe on Him at such an early age that you will not remember a time of  not knowing Him.  We pray that you will love His word and walk in obedience to it.  Your dad always prays that God will make you a "warrior" for Him.  He wants you to always fight and stand strong for righteousness, even when it is most difficult to do so. Real, meaningful, abundant life is only found in Jesus.  That is the life we long for you to live.

We are aware that you are about to rock our world as we know it.  Your dad and I love each other so much and are so thankful that the Lord has chosen us to be your parents.  We know our lives will never be the same again and we welcome the change with open arms.  You are worth all the sleepless, worrisome, crazy days and nights ahead.  I have no doubt you will keep us on our knees and in desperate need of God's grace and provision. You son, are a blessing, a heritage from the Lord and a reward from Him.  I could not be more thankful for your little life.

you are dearly loved,
Mommy

"...and be thankful"

I have recently been studying the book of Colossians in my quiet times with the Lord.  What a rich letter Paul wrote.  It has been nicel that our pastor has been teaching through it as well which has helped me understand it more.  There is so much truth to glean, conviction to be felt, and application to live out.  I could write for days on what the Lord has been teaching me but thought I would just share what I was reminded of this morning.  As I looked over the verses from the sermon yesterday, Colossians 3:15-17, the common theme was thankfulness. Verse 15 says "and let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts...And be thankful", v16 "let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another...with thankfulness in your hearts to God", v17 "whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father.

I have been reflecting this morning if my life and my words reflect "thankfulness in my heart".  If there is any season of my life that my heart should reflect thankfulness, it is this season of life.  Yet, somehow I still find things to complain about or reasons to be discontent.  I have nothing to complain about and everything to be thankful for.  I am especially thankful for our little boy that we will be meeting so soon. (5 weeks or less!) I have been praying for this little boy almost daily since Lan and I got engaged.  I asked the Lord often that He would be gracious in allowing us to conceive a child and that I would have the privilege of experiencing pregnancy and carrying a little life within me.  He saw fit to answer this prayer with a "yes", a quicker "yes" than I would have dreamed. Our hearts overflowed with thankfulness when we realized God was saying yes to this deep desire of our hearts. Yet...somehow, now I find myself bordering on complaining, almost daily.  I "share"/complain about feeling so heavy, I will never look the same, being so uncomfortable, my back hurts, my hips hurt, I have lots of heartburn, sleep is interrupted 8 times a night by my tiny bladder, there's so much to get done still, etc...etc.. I don't think it's wrong to be honest when someone asks me how I feel...but I want my "feeling" of thankfulness to so far outweigh feelings of discomfort, that that is what I feel inclined share.  It's just amazing how quick I am to forget the Lord's goodness and faithfulness.  This baby boy and this pregnancy is a GIFT, a blessing, not something that was promised but something the Lord, in His mercy saw good to give.  All that to say, if you read this and you talk to me...don't allow me to go on about discomforts, remind me of truth.  I know when he arrives, it will be a whole new set of "struggles" and "discomforts".  Even then, I am praying that my heart chooses thankfulness.  I know it will be easier said than done :)

The last verse I read this morning was very fitting as I reflected,  Colossians 4:6--"Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person."

Thankful for the Lord's patience with me.

Our 1st Anniversary

We celebrated our one year anniversary about a week and a half ago! While it didn't go exactly how we thought, it was sweet nonetheless. We were in SC to see friends and family. The night before our anniversary I began have contractions around 8:00 pm and they continued to stay relatively strong and regular throughout the night.  I didn't go to sleep, as I was trying to keep track of how far apart they were.  Lanie stayed up with me almost all night, keeping me company and keeping me calm and happy. Therefore we unexpectedly started enjoying our anniversary together as soon as it began at midnight :)

We ended up going to the hospital around 7am because the contractions hadn't let up and had been 2-7 minutes apart for a couple hours and I felt like I had to go in to make sure I wasn't actually in labor.  And although we were exhausted and that's not where we wanted to spend the morning, we made the best of it.  While I was being monitored, we got to hear our little boy's heartbeat for over 3 hours and hear all the swooshing movements he was making.  We loved that part.  The entire time we were there, I was reminded how blessed I am to be married to Lanie.  He was so sweet, encouraging, and hilarious the entire time.  He kept me calm and laughing all the while being hooked up to machines and fluids that made me feel super uncomfortable.  After a few hours, my contractions spread out and the let me go home.
Our romantic anniversary :)

We got to eat lunch with my fam quickly and then headed back to Knoxville.  I was anxious to get back, not be on the road, and be back near my doctor.  Thankfully, I didn't have many contractions on the way home.  Once we got home we got to relax, exchange gifts, and eat the top of our wedding cake :)  It was great.

Speaking of gifts, Lan got me the best gift. When we were first reintroduced in 2010, we both had blackberry phones and our primary source of communication those first couple month was via blackberry messenger...as in throughout the day, every day.  Long story short, neither of us have had those phones for a long time and I assumed all of those conversations were lost.  However, Lan had saved all of our conversations since the very first one. He had them all bound into a hardcover book, a 160 page book.  I cried, then laughed A LOT as I read through our interactions with each other.  I am so thankful that we will forever have those first bits of communication that would lead to our marriage.

I could not be more thankful to be Mrs. Lanie Britton.  I am a million times more thankful today than I was on our wedding day.  Our first year of marriage was just blissful. I know every season of life won't be as sweet or easy or fun but I'm so glad our first year has been just that. He has made an effort every single day to make me feel loved, cherished and appreciated. I couldn't have dreamed up a man better suited for me.   The Lord sure is good. So incredibly good.

32 weeks

This pic is from 30 weeks, I need to take another one soon...and I also need to post about our trip to Hilton Head and my sweet shower in Columbia!

How far along: 32 weeks and 1 days

Size of baby: We don't really know, but possibly about 18 inches and 4.5 lbs!

Total weight gain:  +25 lbs, and I just keep growing!

Movements: He is still moving around a lot and I am still loving it.  I hear he will be running out of room here pretty soon so I may not feel him quite as much.

What I miss:  just feeling normal, physically...but I really don't want to wish away the remaining weeks of pregnancy.

Cravings: still mostly chocolate...and I'm pretty much always in the mood for a cheeseburger

Symptoms: still backaches, braxton hicks contractions, heartburn, general discomfort from carrying all this weight in my belly!

Best moments of the Week:  Yesterday being Father's Day was really sweet.  I ended up getting Lan a backpack diaper bag (he wanted one) and I wrote him a lil letter from the perspective of our son.  It was just neat being able to celebrate for the first time the dad he is and is going to be.  Our little boy is so incredibly blessed to have him as a father.  If we can raise him to be half the man Lanie is, we'll have done a good job!  I can't wait to see them together and see the relationship that they will develop.  This is a sweet, sweet season.

29 1/2 weeks :)

How far along: 29 weeks and 3 days!

Size of baby: Approximately 17 inches long and a little over 3 lbs!

Total weight gain:  +20 lbs, my belly is feeling heavy most of the time

Movements: He's becoming more and more squirmy.  I now can feel and watch his little body move around within me.  I love it SO much. Lan loves to feel him move around too.

What I miss:  not having back pain, sleeping comfortably

Cravings: Nothing weird...still liking chocolate at most hours of the day

Symptoms: Large belly=back pains  Also, I'm still having Braxton Hicks contractions.  Some days I have a whole lot some days just a few here and there.  The doctor checks me every time I go in to make sure they aren't causing any changes and so far so good!

Best moments of the Week:  I just love the evenings being home with Lan...especially when little boy is super active. We our savoring our time together before he comes but love him so much and love thinking about what it will be like once he arrives!  We still haven't decided on a name but I think we're getting a little closer!

A Knoxville Shower :)

This past weekend, some dear ladies threw me a shower here in Knoxville. Danielle even came down from Ohio for the weekend, which was beyond fun. The shower was so lovely and just so sweet that so many women chose to come celebrate our little boy.  My friend Laura was the sweetest in wanting to throw the shower and my other sweet friend Shelley offered  her beautiful home. They made it such a special time.  The food was delicious, I received wonderful gifts, ladies prayed for our little man and then decorated lots of bibs and onesies :)

The beautiful hostesses

the decorated onesies...yes that's a TI calculator :)

I am so thankful for the friends and community God has provided here in Knoxville.  It is very humbling.  I know our little guy is already dearly loved and cared for.  There are many people, including his mommy and daddy, that are thrilled that he will be arriving soon :)

26 Weeks. Time is flying!

How far along: 26 weeks 2 days
Baby updates: Baby Boy is about 15 inches and probably about 2 lbs! He has doubled in weight over the past 4 weeks!  He can now recognize mine and Lanie's voices.  How sweet.
Momma updates:  I'm still feeling well.  I had lots of Braxton Hicks contractions last week and had to go see the doctor but thankfully nothing is happening.   I seem to be having less so far this week and I am thankful.  They don't really hurt but are just uncomfortable and a little disconcerting when I have so many.
Things I miss: Sleeping comfortably and not getting up 5 times a night to go to the restroom.
Cravings: Nothing too specific...there have been a few days when I've really wanted a cheeseburger..and always chocolate.
Weight:  +17lbs! And that was last week.  I seem to be growing exponentially.  I was asked this past weekend if I was sure there aren't 2 boys in there. So no more little pregnant belly for me.
Best moments of the week:  My sister in law, Mariruth got married on Saturday!  That was a sweet time even through all the rain! Also continuing to feel my boy move around is just my favorite thing.  Its hard to believe that his due date is in less than 14 weeks! Can not WAIT to meet him.

Oh Babies!

We are blessed with a great community of believers that live close by to us here in Fountain City.  There are 8 families total that get together every Thursday night for dinner.  Before a couple weeks ago, 6 out of the 8 of us were pregnant! I'm not sure, but I think we must have all drank something at the same time :).  Allison had her sweet baby girl Blair a couple weeks ago, so one down, 5 to go!  I am very thankful for these women (and the others who aren't pregnant).  They have made me feel super welcomed here in Knoxville and they are for sure a gift from the Lord.  One of them, Lori, happens to be an amazing photographer and had the brilliant idea of documenting this very pregnant and newborn season of our life :)

Feeling my baby boy kick is the best feeling in the entire world!  That's all.

24 weeks is the best

24 weeks and 1 day
Yes this has probably been my favorite week of pregnancy yet.  Pretty much all due to the fact that I am feeling him kick his little feet at least a few times every day! Yesterday I felt him a lot in the morning and evening. He is kicking harder now and Lanie has gotten to feel him a few times which is just the sweetest thing in the world.  Lanie just loves him so much and is so excited to be a dad.  He's already a great one.  Last night Lan even got to see him kick and watch my belly jump.  I've been telling him this is happening but it had never happened while he is home.  Another great thing about being 24 weeks is it being oh so evident that I am pregnant.  I really do love it.  I'm sure as I get closer to the end, I will be more uncomfortable and not love my growing belly quite as much.  I'm just going to enjoy it right now though! I love my little boy and love that he is with me all the time. I absolutely can not wait to meet him face to face and give him endless kisses and snuggles.  I know its going to be really hard and really life changing but what a blessing he is and will be.  We still don't know his name but I know that the Lord knows it already and we are asking Him to reveal it to us.  I hope that will be really really soon! :)

Wears Valley

Wears Valley, TN

This past weekemd, Lan and I went to the mountains with lots of couples from our Sunday school class (and some of their cute little ones). One of our leader couples has a couple of beautiful cabins beside each other in Wears Valley and were so kind to open them to us.  The view was breathtaking on both sides (see above pic).  It was such a sweet time to just hang out with new friends and get to know others better.  Friday we had a great dinner and time of fellowship and a fierce game of pictionary.  Saturday was a sweet time of breakfast, devotions, cornhole, and sitting on the porch!  I could not be more thankful for this group of people that God has put in our lives.  They love Him so much and are committed to having community with each other. What a gift. Below is a pic of my friend Laura and her husband Jared.  Some of you have heard me mention her name. She is a part of my small group and has quickly become one of my best friends here.  She is a blessing.

23 Weeks!

I haven't taken a belly pic this week.  I will get back on that next week I guess!

How far along: 23 weeks & 3 days
Baby updates: Baby Britton is about 11 inches now and weighs over a pound! He is starting to put on a lot more fat so he'll be putting on some serious lbs here in the next few weeks (as will his momma, I'm sure!) He is hearing us and other things more clearly now.  Still no name...but we are going to work on that!
Momma updates:  Overall I am feeling really good! I do have some days when I get really fatigued for no good reason (except for the fact that I'm growing a human).  I definitely can't complain though.  Thankful to feel well!
Things I miss: Cuddling easily with my sweet husband in the mornings. (sorry if thats TMI) I have had to use the enormous snoogle (pregnancy pillow) for over a month now and I don't like that it serves as an unwanted barrier between us!
Cravings: Chocolate, Chickfila, Oh wait...that is no different than before I was pregnant.
Weight:  Well I don't have a scale so I don't know for sure how much I've gained but my belly is feeling heavier so I think its safe to say I've put on a couple more lbs...I go back to the doctor next week and will know for sure then! Also, just this week I've had a number of complete strangers ask me when I'm due...so I guess I'm looking big enough to where people feel safe to ask :)
Best moments of the week:  Actually just now I had such a sweet time of feeling our son moving around a lot. Because of my anterior placenta, I haven't been able to feel him much at all.  I've been praying that I would have the reassurance of being able to feel him more and he was just so busy for a solid half hour this afternoon! One time he kicked so hard, I could even see my belly jump a little. Oh man, this little boy already has my heart!

21 weeks

Still growing...still thankful...still no name for our little boy... And still growing more and more in love with him! Only 18 1/2weeks left until his due date.  I know it is going to fly by...lots and lots to do :)
I think this is known as a selfie.

Easter in SC

It was a beautiful day to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior! It was a really fun, really short weekend but I was thankful to get to spend time with  my family and even see some friends! I really hope we will get back to SC very soon!

Halfway...how did that happen?

It is hard to believe that I am a couple days past the halfway point of my pregnancy.  I have moments where I feel so blessed that I feel as if my heart could burst.  We had our 20 week appointment this morning. We had the long ultrasound checking all different parts of our son, making sure he is developing properly.  Praise the Lord that everything seems to be going really well.  We are so thankful for the Lord's mercy through this pregnancy so far.  It was sweet to see him again.  I love watching him move his little legs and arms.  He kept his hands close to his face much of the time, and appeared to be sucking his thumb at one point.  It really is amazing how quickly he has grown and changed.  He weighs 14 oz and is a cute as he can be! Your daddy and I love you so much baby boy! We are working on getting you a name! :)

19 weeks and thankful!

19 weeks 2 days
I am starting to feel large...which is ridiculous and I know my 39 week self will hate me for even typing that at 19 weeks. It does seem like reaching for things, getting in and out of the car, etc, just isn't quite as easy as it was. And I will be growing so much more! It is somewhat odd to watch my body grow and grow..especially since I have pretty much looked the same since 9th grade.  That being said,  I am determined to not worry about what my body will look like post-baby.  I am determined to not let my mind focus on the superficial.  I am determined to just be THANKFUL.  Thankful that my body is growing because my baby boy is growing and healthy.  Thankful that I have the privilege of carrying my child.  Thankful that my body was made to do this, to sustain my baby until he is ready to join the rest of the world! Thankful. Thankful. Thankful.

18 weeks :)

I stole this little survey from friends :)

How far along: 18 weeks 2 days

Size of baby: Everything I read differs but I think about the size of my hand

Total weight gain: Supposedly less than 5lbs...but I hate to see this belly at 30lbs

Maternity clothes: I've got some really cute stuff for spring, thanks to my mother and mother in law!

Gender: BOY!!! LOVE HIM!

Movements:  We saw him moving in the ultrasound but I'm still not sure if I've actually felt him. I can't wait though.

Sleep: ugh...A bad day to answer this.  My bladder gets me up on average 4 times a night. And the past few nights, my hips have hurt quite a bit from sleeping on my side.

What I miss:  sleeping on my back, sweet tea and diet coke.

Cravings: Nothing super specific, changes daily.

Symptoms: Tired, hip pain, growing belly :)!

Best moment of the week:  Definitely the moment of knowing that our baby is a boy.  It was a sweet, sweet moment that I will never forget!

Thursday, 7 March 2013

oh BOY oh BOY!!

Heart. MELTED.

Already.

Seriously, I'm going to eat him up!

We found out yesterday the wonderful, awesome, exciting news  that our baby is a BOY.  I could not have been more thrilled.  I'm sure I would have been equally as thankful for a girl, however deep down, my  heart was hoping for a boy. It was such a sweet, blessed day.  My parents came in town for a visit and to find out what their grandchild was going to be.  I could hardly sleep the night before.  I woke up with butterflies about 20 times throughout the night.  When our alarm went off, I popped right up and said "eeeee we're about to find out what our baby is!" I got so excited/anxious/crazy feeling for the following 2 hours.  I could barely eat breakfast (very abnormal for this preggo), my heart was racing, I could NOT calm down.  It was crazy.  I still don't know why I had SO much nervous energy.

Thankfully we didn't have to wait long once we got to the office.  I went back to the ultrasound room with Lan and my parents. As we started watching, she showed us different angles of the baby...which was sweet.  He has grown so much and kept waving at us.  It was hard to focus though because I just kept wondering when/how we would know the gender.  Then she changed the angle once again!  It appeared evident that the screen was showing a little bottom and legs...with a very apparent "something" between them.  We were all staring silently and wondering the same thing...when the words popped up on the screen "I'm a boy!". With a gasp and a yay!..and a few tears...we celebrated the beautiful news.  It was just such wonderful news...my heart was, and is, so full.  It is a moment I will never forget.  God is so kind and gracious.  He is giving us such a good gift in a son. I am a thankful mommy and love my little buddy so much already. Ahhhh HE's a boy! :) :) :)

16 weeks and growing :)

One more week until we know if baby Britton is a boy or a girl! I can not wait! eeeeee! We read Sunday that the baby can now hear noises.  For some reason, this seems like one of the biggest developments to me.   I have been talking more to the baby and praying loudly over my belly.  I feel a little silly, but thankfully I am home by myself when this takes place :) Everything is starting to feel more like reality and my heart is just growing more in love with this baby every day.  What a blessing you are, little one!

15 weeks!

Yesterday I decided it was probably time to start taking those stereotypical, side belly shots.  I honestly didn't think I was really showing until I looked at this picture.  I was a tad caught off guard.  I was like whoa, I really look pregnant. I knew my jeans were getting tighter but I didn't realize how much I had grown.  It made it more real to think this belly is just going to get bigger!  Can not wait to find out if this little love is a boy or a girl.  Two weeks from tomorrow!

Best Valentine's

I've never really cared about Valentine's day, ever.  Even when Lan and I were dating, it just didn't seem like a big deal to me. However yesterday ended up being super special for us.  Unfortunately, the past month or so we haven't been able to spend a ton of quality time together in the evenings or even on Saturdays. We've (Lan) has been working relentlessly  to get our rental props ready to be rented...so most of his evenings have been spent painting or fixing things. Sometimes I would go with him to help with what I could or just hang out but I couldn't be around paint fumes, so I couldn't help him much with that part..  All that to say, last night was just a little extra special because we were just excited to be together, just the two of us.

We had decided to stay in and not go anywhere.  We ordered a pizza from Giordano's in Chicago and had it shipped to our house.  We ate there when we visited in 2011 and I was convinced it was the best pizza on earth.  I am still convinced.  I surprised him by getting all dolled up and put on a new red dress I got for Christmas.  Thankfully, it fit!  I am growing a tad, so I wasn't sure it would.  I got out our fine china for the first time and lit quite a few candles around the house and waited with great anticipation for my husband to come home.  I knew he would be so excited and just relieved to be home.  I love that he loves coming
home.

We just had a great time being together, eating pizza on our china, reminiscing about our ridiculous trip to Chicago and telling each other just how thankful we are to be married.  The only negative of the evening was that we were too full to eat dessert.   I am sure that every Valentine's Day will not be so romantic or as exciting but I am thankful that our first one together was just perfect.  I am so thankful for the husband God has given me.
Oh yeah, and my husband found time to buy me some gorgeous flowers...*swoon*

A baby Britton on the way!

Today I am 14w and 1d pregnant! It is still so incredibly surreal.  I'm not sure when it will fully sink in. We could not be more thankful. The Lord is so gracious. We found out that we were expecting during the  first week of December.  I felt silly even buying a pregnancy test, thinking there was no way I was actually pregnant. However, with a little prompting from my friend Emily (who had a dream the night before that I took a positive test), I decided to just put my thoughts to rest. I took a test, make that 2 tests around 3:30 pm...it took about half a second for that second line to show up, bright and clear.  Nothing can prepare you for that moment. I couldn't believe it.  I was thrilled and shocked and thankful and a thousand other emotions at the exact same time.  I just sat down on the couch and prayed.  I had no idea what else to do.  What a miracle. I had to keep all this to myself for the next 3 hours, until my baby daddy got home from work. I was about to burst all afternoon and tried to act very normal when I talked to him on the phone. Lanie had no idea I was even thinking about taking a pregnancy test, so needless to say, I knew he would be shocked. When he got home from work, I asked him to sit down and then told him I thought we should go out to eat to celebrate! He looked at me puzzled and asked, "celebrate what?" He thought I had a job interview...not quite. When I told him we should celebrate that I was pregnant, his response was "What?! are you sure?!", "how?!'.  He was so excited but also a tad caught off guard, to say the least. I only wish I would have thought to video his reaction.  Even though he was thrilled at the news, he made me take 3 different tests later that night to ensure they were correct :)

We were able to tell both of our families over Christmas.  It was such an ideal time to be able to tell them the great news.  We had our first ultrasound just a few days before Christmas so we were able to give them a picture of the sweet little bean.  It was so fun to share the news and start celebrating with people we love.

Overall the discomforts of pregnancy have been manageable. I definitely have had weeks of extreme fatigue and had about 4 weeks of a sick stomach, but both of these seem to have eased up and I'm feeling relatively normal. :)  My only aversion has been olive oil, namely spinach sauteed in it...ugh.  No serious cravings...except for a ham and cheese croissant (which I don't know that I've ever had one) but it sounds good most of the time.

We find out whether baby is a boy or a girl in just 3 weeks! I am SO excited to find out.  It really doesn't matter to us at all.  This child is already dearly loved and cherished.  This baby is, without a doubt,  a good gift from the Lord and He is already using him/her to teach me to trust Him more. I've never felt so out of control of something so important.  I find so much comfort in knowing the God IS in complete control.  He created our child, is forming our child and loves our child more than we ever could.  I feel so privileged to carry this sweet little baby.
